Jameela Malik Biography

Jameela Malik is a retired film actress of south Indian cinema, who predominantly worked in Tamil and Malayalam movies. She was active in the decades of 1970s and 1980s. She marked her screen debut with Malayalam movie, 'Aadyathe Katha' in 1972. She is the first woman from Kerala to graduate from India's prestigious FTII, Pune. Apart from a film actress, she was also a teacher by profession. She had a brief marriage and one son. She was active in television serials in the 1990s, and now since 2016.

 

She was born in Kollam, Kerala as the daughter of Malik Mohammed and Thankamma Malik. Shew as the eldest of four children, and had two brothers and one sister. Her parents were politicians affiliated to Congress party. Both her parents have served as municipal councillors.  She schooled from Mohammedan Memorial School. Jameela Malik was quite active in plays and cultural events during her school days. When she was chosen as a representative of stage play for youth festival she appeared in the play, “Oru Muri Thenga”. With this single role she became the star of her school. The play also won second prize in the youth festival competition.

 

While at school she was approached to do the role of Sheela’s younger sister in Chemmeen. However she was very much scared that time and didn’t get the role too. Later she enrolled at FTII Pune, and became the first woman graduate from this prestigious institute. 'Aadyathe Katha' in 1972 was her first credited role. Later she appeared in Niramaala, Boy Friend, Chottanikkara Amma, Kazhukan, Swarna Medal, Sexilla Stundilla etc. Currently she is active in television industry. Nadhiyai Thedi Vandha Kadal is one of her noted roles in Tamil films.
