K. R. Ramesh Kumar Biography 
K. R. Ramesh Kumar is an Indian politician from the south Indian state of Karnataka. Currently he serves as the speaker of Karnataka state. A member of the Indian National Congress and Janata Dal, he represented the party five times in state legislative assembly since late 1970s. In June 2016 Ramesh Kumar was inducted into the Siddaramaiah led government of Karnataka, and was given cabinet position. He served as Health and Family Welfare Ministry portfolio in the Government of Karnataka. He assumed power as speaker on 25 May 2018 and succeeded senior Congress politician, K. B. Koliwad. He currently represents Srinivaspur constituency of Kolar district.
Ramesh Kumar started his political career in the 1970s with the Indian National Congress, and later switched over to Janata Party in the mid-eighties. In the 1990s he was associated with Janata dal. He returned back to Congress in the early 2000s. He contested state assembly elections for the first time in 1978 as a Congress candidate and won by over 18000 votes. R. G. Narayana Reddy was his main opponent. However he lost 1983 elections by a narrow margin of 700 votes. In 1985 he bounced back and won as Janata party candidate by a margin of 7000 votes. In 1989 he lost his seat to a Congress candidate and won 1994 elections as a Janata party. Thus he had a mix of successes and failures in his political career, and he has been associated with two parties as well.
In 1999 elections, he stood as an independent candidate and lost it by a margin of only 1000 votes. In 2004 he restored his position joining Congress Party and won state assembly elections as well. He lost 2008 Karnataka Legislative Assembly election and finally won 2013 elections. Thus his wins and failures almost followed an alternate fashion.
