Kamala Kamesh Biography
Kamala Kamesh is a veteran character artist associated with Tamil cinema. She played more than 400 character roles on Tamil screen, apart from Malayalam films. She has also done Telugu, Kannada and Hindi movies. She was most active during the late 1960s and the decade of 1970s. Her husband Kamesh was a music director. Her daughter Uma Riyaz Khan is also a character artist associated with Tamil cinema who is married to Riyaz Khan, known for portraying police and villain roles. Her grandchildren - Shariq Hassan and Samarth have also debut silver screen. Kamala played the role of Visu’s wife in “Samsaram Adhu Minsaram”, a cult classic still popular among viewers.
Kamala was born in Kochi, Kerala in 1961. She married Kamesh, a Tamil Music director and had one daughter – Uma. Kamesh died when Uma was only 9 years old and later Kamala brought up her child. It was Robert Rajasekhar who insisted her to enter into film industry, and she didn’t know anything at that time. Kamala credits director Visu for her entry into plays and she had some good experience with theater. Some of her noted film Tamil roles include - Samsaram Adhu Minsaram, Pulan Visaranai, Vishwa Thulasi, Kadalora Kavithaigal, Alaigal Oivathillai, Manal Kayiru, Chinna Gounder etc. Asthikal Pookkunnu, Veendum Lisa, Rugma, Dheem Tharikidathom, Amrutham Gamaya, Avan Ananthapadmanabhan etc are her noted Malayalam movies.
Now she has some vision problems. Yet she is busy with her acting career. The actress feels that character artists don’t get powerful roles to play these days, and mother roles are not prominent nowadays. But she got some good roles in television, where she is active right now.
