Kanika (actress) Biography

Kanika is the stage name of Divya Venkatasubramaniam, who is an Indian film actress, TV anchor and playback singer. Her debut film in Tamil was Five Star. She also worked in Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada film industry. She played the role of Eashwari in her film Five star. She acted in Varalaru – History of Godfather as Gayathri and Autograph as Thenmozhi. Bhagyadevatha and Pazhassi Raja are her commercial hits in Malayalam.

She was born on 3^rd July 1982 in Madurai in a Tamil Brahmin family. Her father, Venkat Subramaniam is an engineer. She finished her schooling at TVS Higher Secondary School at Madurai and got Tamil Nadu State Award for Educational Excellence in the year 1999. Then she got admission in BITS, Pilani on merit and got her graduation in Mechanical Engineering. She married Shyam Radhakrishnan, software engineer on 15^th June 2008.

She was a pop singer and contested at the Miss Chennai event in 2001. She won and got the title of Miss Chennai and this paved way for her film career. She entered the film industry as Kanika and acted as a traditional village girl in the film Five Star with Prasanna. She gave preference to her studies than acting in films. Her Telugu debut film was Ottessi Chepputunna. Then she acted in Kannada film Annavaru in 2004. She played cameo role in Autograph.

Other films that she acted are Aethiree, Dancer, Sye, Ennittum, Rajakumari, Bhagyadevatha, My Big Father, Christian Brothers, etc. She was expected to bid adieu to the film industry after her marriage but she reentered Malayalam cinema in 2009. She acted in Bhagyadevatha by Sathyan Anthikkad and Pazhassi Raja by Hariharan.

She is also performing as a TV anchor and took part in Kalakka Povathu Yaaru, and in the game show, Mega Thanga Vettai. She acted in the television serial, Thiruvilayadal. She also worked as a dubbing artist in many films. She appears in advertisements of The Chennai Silks, Rathna Thanga Maligai, Tata Gold Plus, Aachi Masala, Kalyan Sarees and Jewellers, etc.
