Kitu Gidwani Biography
Kitu Gidwani is a successful film and television actress. She is a former model too. TV series, Air Hostess aired on Doordarshan during middle 1980’s made her a household name. Dance of the Wind (1997), Earth (1998), Rukhmavati Ki Haveli (1991), Abhay and Deham (2001) are her most noted film characters. Apart from Air Hostess (1986), Swabhimaan (1995), Saahil (1995), Yeh Kahan Aa Gaye Hum, Shaktimaan (1998) and Junoon are other noted Doordarshan serials. She is born to Sindhi parents who migrated from Pakistan to India after partition in 1947. Kitu is unmarried.
Her full name is Kaushalya Gidwani and she was born on 22 October 1957 in Mumbai. Kitu’s parents originally belong to Sind provinces who migrated to India during partition and they later lived in refugee camp in Worli. She studied in Fort Convent School, Mumbai. During post-graduation period, she got attracted to French language and plays and participated in them as well. It was followed by English plays directed by Janak Toprani. During middle 1980’s, she became active in television and appeared in several Doordarshan serials. Air Hostess aired on Doordarshan in 1986 made her a popular actress. She has also appeared in Hindi movie Holi in 1984.
In 1987, she acted in French movie, Black where she appeared as a Brazilian girl. Her television debut happened in 1984 with TV soap Trishna. Later during 1980’s and 1990’s, she has been one of the most busy television stars of Doordarshan. In 1997 she acted as played the role of a Hindustani vocalist Pallavi, which won her Best Actress Award at Three Continents Festival, Nantes. Most recently she appeared in Fashion, Dhobi Ghat and Student of the Year. In 2001, she promoted Wills Sport Lifestyle brand of clothing.
