Lalitha Kumari Biography

Lalitha Kumari is a noted character artist associated with Tamil cinema. She is the ex-wife of famous film star, Prakash Raj known for villain roles. She is the daughter of Tamil actor C. L. Anandan, known for many classic hits of 1960s. Her elder sister Disco Shanti has also worked in different language films, and known for her dance sequences. As an actress, Lalitha Kumari is known for the roles she played in Manadhil Urudhi Vendum, Pudhu Pudhu Arthangal, Pulan Visaranai and Sigaram. She has done more than 30 character roles on Tamil big screen.

She is shortly called Lalitha by her friends and relatives. Born into a filmy family, where her father stayed as a leading hero of 1960s, Lalitha and her sister Disco shanti too joined cine world as actors. She got married to actor Prakash Raj in 1994 and the couple has two daughters and one son. They lost their son in 2004, and the couple got legally separated 5 years later. Prakash Raj is currently married to Pony Verma, a choreographer of Bollywood film industry.

Lalitha’s film career began in the late 1980s. Manadhil Urudhi Vendum in 1987 was her debut flick. Later she appeared in Veedu Manaivi Makkal, Pudhu Pudhu Arthangal, Pulan Visaranai, Ulagam Pirandhadhu Enakkaga, Pathimoonam Number Veedu, Sigaram, Parvathi Ennai Paradi, Nadodi Mannan, Marumagan etc. She starred in a few films made by Balachander, and also some Telugu movies. After her marriage with Prakash Raj in the mid-1990s, she took to sabbatical from the industry to look after the family and three children. She returned to films only after her legal separation with Prakash raj. She has been waiting for the right role for her re-entry to acting.
