Madhu Balakrishnan Biography
Madhu Balakrishnan is a playback singer of South Indian movies. He has many hit numbers in all the south Indian film industries. Madhu Balakrishnan, who is inspired by the versatile playback singer K.J.Yesudas has sung many songs in his singing style. ‘Kanaa kandendi’ of Pathiban Kanavu is one such song. This song placed him as an established singer of Tamil film industry. He is married to cricketer Sreesanth’s sister – Viditha and has 2 sons. He has rendered his voice to about 150 Malayalam songs, 80 Tamil songs, 45 Telugu songs and 65 Kannada songs. Now he has become the voice of the youth of present times.
Born in Thripunithura of Kochi, Kerala, he is a trained classical singer who used to perform in concerts and television shows. He is an artist of All India radio and Doordarshan also and regular performer of Swaralaya awards usually conducted at Palakkad. He also performs regularly in Chembai Sangeetholsavam in Guruvayoor and a great devotee of Guruvayur Kannan. He also performs live in many foreign countries, as a part of trips. Till now, he has done many devotional albums and alone with film songs collectively, he has done 10,000 songs till now. His devotional songs of Ayyappa and Krishna are most popular in Malayalam Hindu homes.
Though he has done a few movies in Malayalam, it was the song ‘Amme Amme’ of Vaalkannadi that gained popularity to him as a good singer. ‘Kuttanaadan Kaayalile’ of Mamootty’s Kaazcha was another popular number. After Kana kandein, his most popular Tamil song was ‘Konjaneram Konjaneram’ – a duet with versatile singer Asha Bhosle for the blockbuster Chandramukhi – remake of Malayalam movie Manichitrathaazhu. ‘Kanakandenadi Sharade’ of the movie Aptamitra in Kannada was his first hit number in Kannada movies.
He has won Mirchi awards for the song ‘Pichai Pathram’ of the tamil movie ‘Jnan Kadavul’. Other hit Malayalam songs include ‘manchadi mazha’ and revere aayi of Rock ’n’ Roll, Ramayanam Katha and Sandhya Prakasame of Pathaam Nilayile Theevandi, Nombara koottile of Yathrakaarude shraddhakku, Chembakame of Kaakka karumban, Kanaka sabhathalam of Udaya puram sulthan, Thatta penne of Aaakashathile paravakal, Aare aare ariyaan of Thilakkam and Orikkalum piriyilla jnangal of Swapnakoodu.
