Madhu Neelakandan Biography
Madhu Neelakandan is an Indian cinematographer associated with Malayalam cinema. He hails from Kochi, and is currently quite active in film scene. He gained critical acclaim for his work in Annayum Rasoolum (2012) and Kammatipaadam released in 2016, both directed by Rajeev Ravi. Some of his other best works till now include – Solo, Ayaal, Memories, Anandabhadram, Ramante Edanthottam, Aami, Udaharanam Sujatha, Kadal Kadannu Oru Maathukutty, Annayum Rasoolum, Iyobinte Pusthakam, Charlie, Masters, Vajram etc. In a career spanning to more than 15 years, he has done around 20 movies, and has worked with both senior and new directors of Malayalam cinema. His name was credited as Madhu Neelkanthan in early movies.
Madhu Neelakandan hails from Kochi, Kerala. He graduated from Film and Television Institute of India, Pune and is associated with film industry since 1998. His first film as a full-fledged cinematographer was Ivar released in 2003. He earned initial success through Santosh Sivan’s Anandabhadram released in 2005. Though he worked in many movies throughout the decade, he gained recognition and success in the 2010s working with some of the best films of the era. He won Kerala State Film Award for Best Cinematography (2012) for Annayum Rasoolum, which also earned him critical acclaim.
Apart from Rajeev Ravi, he has worked with directors like Kamal, Martin Prakkat, Amal Neerad, Jeethu Joseph, Ranjith, Santosh Sivan etc. He knows Rajeev Ravi long before he reached cinema. Currently he is one of the most sought cinematographers of Malayalam film industry. In 2015 he did the camera work of Kannada movie, Drishya, the remake of 2013 blockbuster Drishyam. He is a part of Collective Phase One, which produced a few movies such as "ID" and “Njan Steve Lopez”.
