Mayuri Kango Biography

Mayuri Kango – a former actress of Bollywood known for Papa kehte hain and Hogi pyar ke geet. Though both these movies were disasters of the year, Mayuri is a well known face of Bollywood. All songs of Papa kehte hain (1996) became huge hits that she became a popular face. She debut Bollywood through Naseem in 1995 and has appeared in movies like Badal, Jung, Vamsi, Shraddha, Jeetenge hum, Papa the great and Betaabi. She has also appeared in 1997 music video - Ram Ratan Dhan Payo. Her 1999 movie, Merey apne is yet to be released. Though she is a known face of Bollywood, she is tagged under the category of unsuccessful heroines of Bollywood who couldn’t add at least one hit film in her list. But she has always received positive reviews from film critics. But she couldn’t make use of those opportunities.

When her movies went unnoticed, she worked in a few television serials. Dollar Bahu (2001), Kittie Party (2002) and Karishma - The Miracles of Destiny (2003) where she played the daughter of Karishma Kapoor are a few of her successful serials. She has also appeared in Kya Hadsaa Kya Haqeeqat, a thriller television show that was first aired on Sony TV in 2002. The show was based on different short stories directed by different directors and Mayuri appeared in two of those stories – Kutumb and Kayamat shown in 2004. She has also acted in Nargis of Doordarshan and Thoda Gham Thodi Khushi.

As an actress Mayuri’s debut movie was Naseem directed by Saeed Akhtar Mirza based on his own story. But many viewers regard ‘Papa kehte hain’ opposite Jugal Hansraj as her debut movie as it was through this movie that she got wide attention. In Naseem she played a less glamourous girl and this film marks the screen debut for Kay Kay Menon and the only screen role of Urdu poet Kaifi Azmi also. The movie received 1996 National Film Award for Best Screenplay.

She appeared as a simple innocent girl in Papa kehte hain and music lovers still remember the beautiful songs – Ghar se nikalte hi and Pehla pyar ka pehla gum. Kango married an NRI named Aditya Dhillon on December 28, 2003 and moved to New York.
