Mohan (director) Biography
Mohan is a noted screenwriter and director associated with Malayalam cinema since late 1970s. Most of his memorable movies were released in the 1980s. He started off as the assistant director in the 1970s and worked with legendary film maker, Padmarajan. Padmarajan has scripted a few movies for him. He has been one of the leading film makers of Malayalam in the 1980s and scripted 5 movies - Angene Oru Avadhikkalathu, Mukham, Sruthi, Alolam and Vida Parayum Mumbe. He has also produced one movie – Upasana.
He is the director of classic and path breaking Malayalam movie, Shalini Ente Koottukari released in 1980 which showed the friendship between two young women named Shalini and Ammu. The characters were played by Jalaja and Shobha and the movie has the evergreen song, “Nin thumbu kettiyittachurul mudi”. The movie was scripted by Padmarajan. Angene Oru Avadhikkalathu, Pakshe, Isabella, Randu Penkuttikal, Oru Katha Oru Nunnakkatha, Idavela and Vida Parayum Mumbe are other memorable hits of this director in the 1980s.
Mohan started his film career as an assistant to P. Venu in the 1970s and later he moved to independent projects. He is most known for his association with director Padmarajan who wrote scripts for his movies - Idavela, Kochu Kochu Thettukal and Shalini Ente Koottukari. Actor Babu made his debut through this movie and later he came to be known through his screen name – Edavela Babu. The movie was a campus story revolving around 4 college friends.
He is married to actress Anupama Mohan with whom he has worked in Randu Penkuttikal. He also gave a few memorable roles to National award winning actress Shobha including Randu Penkuttikal and Shalini Ente Koottukari.
