Mukesh Ambani Biography
Mukesh Ambani is the chairman, managing director and the largest shareholder of the Reliance Industries Limited. It is the India's largest private sector company. He was born on 19th April 1957 in Mumbai. He was the eldest son of Dhirubhai Ambani who was the founder of Reliance Industries. Reliance’s Jio has earned a top five spot in the country’s telecommunication services since its public launch on September 5, 2016.
His brother is Anil Ambani. He studied at Abaay Morischa School in Mumbai and completed his graduation with a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering from the UDCT which is now called as Institute of Chemical Technology, Mumbai. He finished his Masters degree in Business Administration at Stanford University, USA.
He joined the Reliance Group in 1981. He was the master brain to Reliance's backward integration from textiles into polyester fibers and further into petrochemicals. During the process of backward integration, he created 51 new modern world-class manufacturing techniques. He introduced new diverse technologies to raise Reliance's manufacturing capacities. He created the world’s largest grassroots petroleum refinery at Jamnagar, India. The production capacity of this plant is 660,000 barrels per day. It integrates with power generation, petrochemicals, port and related infrastructure.
He set a largest and most complex information and communications technology in the name of Reliance Infocomm Limited. This innovative strategy has a unique method and infrastructure to cover more than 1,100 towns and cities throughout India. In his communication service, he added the full range of voice, data, video and many value added services. He used the optic fibre-based terabit infrastructure to lay the cables under the ground for more than 80,000 kilometers nationwide. So, they are able to offer lowest entry cost and services cost anywhere in the world.
Mukesh Ambani received many awards and honors. He was selected as an ET Business leader of the Year 2006. He was ranked at 42nd place among the World's Most Respected Business Leaders. And he was ranked 2nd among the four Indian CEOs featured in a survey. This survey was conducted by PricewaterhouseCoopers and published in Financial Times, London in November 2004. In 2004, he got World Communication Award for the Most Influential Person in Telecommunications industry. He also got the Asia Society Leadership Award by the Asia Society, Washington D.C., USA. As of January 2018, Mukesh Ambani was ranked by Forbes as the 18th-wealthiest person in the world.
