Mukul Dev Biography

Mukul Dev is an Indian actor who works in both movies as well as television. He was an Indian pilot by profession who later entered movies and television. He is better known for the movie, Dastak released in 1996 which happened to be the debut movie of Sushmita Sen, two years later her win at Miss Universe beauty pageant. He is the brother of actor and model, Rahul Dev known for negative roles. One of his earliest appearances in television serials was Doordarshan musical countdown show, Ek se badkar ek (1995) where he played the lead role. His character name was Mukul itself and the show was quite successful too, giving break to Bollywood.

Mukul Dev was born in Delhi. His father was City police commissioner Delhi. He completed schooling from St. Columba's School, Delhi in the year 1988. He debut through television serial, Ek se badkar ek, followed by Mumkin in 1996. Same year his debut movie, Dastak was released. However, much anticipated film was counted among the disasters of the year. But its beautiful songs, Jaadu bhari aakhein and Pal beet gaya hai tho became popular. Next year he was seen in the movie, Mere Do Anmol Ratan, that too was a failure. He got an opportunity of work with many veteran actors of Bollywood like Dileep Kumar and Rekha in his next movie, Qila.  He was paired opposite Mamta Kulkarni in this movie.

In 1998, he got the big opportunity in Bollywood, perhaps the best. He was paired opposite Madhuri Dixit in the movie, Wajood. But the movie failed at box office. Same year, Iske topi uska sar also failed. He has appeared with many newcomers like Arshad Warsi in a few of his early movies. It was followed by a series of flops like Mujhe Meri Biwi Se Bachaao and Kohraan and he shifted to character roles and television serials. A few of his noted roles in the recent times include - Yamla Pagla Deewana and Son of Sardaar. He was one among those handsome young actors who debut in the middle 1990’s, but couldn’t make a significant mark his own. Yet as a television actor, he is quite popular. He was along with the winning team of dance competition, Kabhi Kabhii Pyaar Kabhi Kabhii Yaar. He has also acted in a few Telugu, Punjabi and Bengali movies.
