Nagesh Biography

Nagesh was an Indian film actor who acted as a comedian in Tamil films. He was born on 27th September 1933 in Dharapuram in Erode. His birth name was Krishna Rao Gundu Rao. He acted in more than 1, 000 films from the year 1958 till 2008. He had acted in many roles including that of comedian, supporting actor, lead roles and antagonist.

 

His parents are Krishna Rao and Rukmaniamma. He belonged to Kannada speaking Brahmin family. He lost his father when he was young and was affected by small pox in his early years that caused permanent marks on his face. He studied at Madras and started his career as a clerk in the Indian Railways. He shared single room with writer Vaali and director Sridhar in Madras.

 

He was a heavy smoker and drinker and later gave them up due to his ill health. He married Regina and has two sons Ramesh Babu and Anand Babu. He initially played small roles in dramas. He was given a chance in the film Manamulla Marudhaaram in 1958. However this was a failure.

 

His debut movie in Kannada was Makkala Rajya in 1960. He was praised for his performance in the film Thayilla Pillai. He came to limelight after his role in the film Nenjil Oru Aalayam in 1962. The film Server Sundaram which is said to depict his own life history gave him a major break in the film industry.

 

He appeared in cameo role in the film Thiruvilayadal in 1965. His other films like Kaathalikka Neramillai, Shanthi Nilayam, Pattanathil Bootham and Vietnam Veedu were great success. In 1970s he witnessed a decline in his career. He married Regina who was a Christian and this ruptured his relationship with his mother and his relatives.

 

Some of the films of his later years are Apoorva Sagotharargal, Athisaya Piravi, Maunam Sammadham, Nammavar, Magalir Mattum, Minnale, Poovellam Un Vaasam, Vasool Raja MBBS, etc. He got National Film Award for Best Supporting Actor in the film Nammavar in 1994. He got notable roles in the films Avvai Shanmugi, Panchathanthiram, Imsai Arasan 23m Pulikesi and Dasavatharam. He died on 31st January 2009.
