Pandu (Tamil Actor) Biography
Pandu is a veteran Tamil actor who is associated with film industry since 1970. A noted comedian on silver screen, Pandu’s brother Idichapuli Selvaraj has also played comedy roles onscreen. Still active in the silver screen, he was last seen in Kanchana 2 (2015) playing the role of Dr. Pandurangan. Thus this actor has completed 45 long years in the film industry. Sigaram Thodu, Aindhaam Thalaimurai Sidha Vaidhiya Sigamani, Oru Kanniyum Moonu Kalavaanikalum, Vellachi, Vachathi and Kaadhal Kilukiluppu are among his recent releases. He has also acted in one television serial, Uravugal Sangamam in 2014.
He was born in 1947. After schooling he studied at College of Arts and Crafts in Chennai. His first break to films was through the 1970 movie, Manavalan where he played a comedian role. Since then he is active in the film scene entertaining audience. His debut movie with Jaishankar, Muthuraman and Lakshmi in the lead roles is best known as Kamal Hassan’s debut film as an adult actor, where he appears in a dance sequence after a long break of 7 years. Later he associated with his elder brother Idichapuli Selvaraj and has played some hilarious comedy scenes on celluloid over the years. Throughout the years, he has also portrayed many character roles, apart from comedy ones. His brother Idichapuli Selvaraj passed away in 2012.
He has three sons of whom Pintu Pandu has entered film industry. In 2013, his son Pintu Pandu made his film debut as a hero, through the movie – Vellachi. Pandu started a brass and aluminium company - Prapanj Unlimited in 1975, which is currently run by his son Prabhu Panju. Another son Panju Pandu is associated with arts, and conducts art exhibition aside his father.
