Pyramid Natarajan Biography
Pyramid Natarajan is a veteran film producer and actor associated with Tamil cinema. As a film actor, he debut film scene through Maniratnam classic Alaipayuthey in 2000, where he played Varadharajan, Madhavan’s rude and strict father. Prior to his acting career in films, he has an illustrious theatre journey apart from film production. He has been associated with film scene in the year 1990. Associated with theatre at first, Natarajan worked in government sector before his foray to films. As a film producer, he is one of the co-producers of Kavithalayaa Productions, which successfully produced Roja, Sindhu Bhairavi, Muthu etc.
He was born in Valoothoor village, near Papanasam of Tanjavur district and hails from K. Balachandar’s hometown. He has also been associated with K. Balachandar’s theatre troupe for a short period. Since young he dreamt to become popular through movies and moved to Chennai as a teenager. He has a short stint with K. Balachandar's drama troupe, Ragini Recreations, before starting his own theatre troupe. His career in cinema started as an executive producer with Gemini studios. It was during this time when he learnt more about films and administration and noticing his talents, K. Balachandar suggested him to associate with him to float a new production company. Thus both joined hands to form Kavithalayaa Productions, which produced many successful films with leading stars of the industry - Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan.
One of the most successful and critically acclaimed movies in this banner was Mani Ratnam's Roja, which introduced the great composer A. R. Rahman to Tamil music who has already made his film debut through a Malayalam film the same year. After 15 years of association with Kavithalayaa, he formed Pyramid Films International and has produced 10 films under this banner. As an actor he plays elderly roles onscreen and some of his noted roles are Alaipayuthey, Friends, Thulluvadho Ilamai, Charlie Chaplin, Kalvanin Kadhali, Pulan Visaranai 2, Naan Sigappu Manithan and many more.
