Qaushiq Mukherjee Biography
Qaushiq Mukherjee is an Indian film director, producer and screenwriter too. Qaushiq Mukherjee or simply Q, is known for his genre-defying movies. He is best known for directing the controversial film, Gandu, released in 2010. The movie embroiled in controversy because of language and scenes of nudity and sex. The movie had a delayed release in India, but was shown at different film festivals across the globe. He was also one among the 11 directors, who directed the collaborative feature film, X: Past Is Present (2015) which had one whole story with the eleven directors making sections of it. He directed the segment "Ice Maid", starring Rajat Kapoor and Rii Sen.
Qaushiq Mukherjee hails from West Bengal. He was born and brought up in Kolkata. He studied at South Point High School, and also completed his graduation from Calcutta University. He was into ad field nearly 12 years, working in India and neighbouring island nations, Maldives and Sri Lanka before he switched over to film making. He started off in the early 2000s, with the independent film, Super Boudi. Le Pocha, Bishh and Love in India are a few movies, till he directed Gandu in 2010. For the bold and sexual content, it faced many controversies, and denied a theater release in India then. But the film was well-received in international film festival circuit.
He was associated with X: Past Is Present in 2015, as one among the 11 film directors. Each director dealt with the memory of a girlfriend, and each woman represents a different genre, and all the subplots are interlinked. Tasher Desh, Ludo and Brahman Naman are a few more works. He owns a film production company, Overdose Joint.
