Ram Gopal Varma Biography
Ram Gopal Varma is an Indian film director and a producer who has worked with films of various languages. He started his film career in 1989 and has won National Film Award and Filmfare Awards and also he got the honor of his film premiered at International Film Festival of India.
He was born on 7th April 1962 in Hyderabad in India and his nickname is Ramu. His father’s name was Krishnam Raju Penmetsa and his mother’s name was Satyavathi. He completed his bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from V.R. Siddhartha Engineering College at Vijayawada. He was very much interested in film industry since his college days. He married Ratna and later divorced her and has a daughter named Revathi Varma.
After completing his course, he started his career as a site engineer for Krishna Oberoi Hotel in Hyderabad. Then he wanted to go to Nigeria and work there. He at that time came to know about the video rental library and started one of his own and this established his connections with the film industry. He worked as an assistant director of B. Gopal in the film Collector Gari Abbai. In 1989 he directed his first film in Telugu titled Siva.
His venture in Hindi named Kshana Kshanam gave him good name and he produced many films after that. He worked as screenwriter for the Tamil film by Mani Ratnam Thiruda Thiruda. His film Shiva was screened at the New York Asian Film Festival along with some of his other films such as Company, Ek Hasina Thi and Ab Tak Chhappan.
Some of the films that he has directed include Kshana Kshanam, Gaayam, Anaganaga Oka Roju, Prema Katha, Kaun, Jungle, Bhoot, Sarkar, Phoonk, Rakta Charitra, Katha Screenplay Darshakatvam Appalaraju, Sarkar Raj, Darling, Ram Gopal Varma Ki Aag, Rann, Dongala Mutha, Not A Love Story, Department, etc.
Some of the films that he has produced include Money, Gulabi, Dil Se.., Wife of V. Varaprasad, Shool, Road, Pyaar Tune Kya Kiya, Road, Ek Hasina Thi, Dama Mana Hai, Ab Tak Chhappan, Vaastu Shastra, Gayab, Naach, My Wife’s Murder, Main Madhuri Dixit Banna Chahti Hoon, D, Sarkar, Go, Adavi, Bejawada, etc.
