Ravi Vallathol Biography
Ravi Vallathol is Malayalam actor who works in movies and television serials. He is a theatre artist too. He has been most active in the industry during 1980’s and 1990’s, and was one of the popular actors of small screen during these decades when Doordarshan was the only channel available. He has completed 25 years in entertainment industry. He received Best actor state award for television serials like Chamayam and London Dreams. Salabhanjika and Agneyam are other memorable television serials. He is nephew of great poet Vallathol Narayana Menon. His father was also a noted theater artist - T. N. Gopinathan Nair. Justice P.K.Narayana Pillai and Kuttipurahu Kesavan Nair were his grandfathers.
He was born in Malappuram in an art loving family. He has appeared in almost all plays scripted by his father. One of his plays, ‘Revathikkoru pavakkutti’ became a critically acclaimed feature film. He studied at Thiruvananthapuram Model school, where veteran Malayalam actor Jagathy Sreekumar was his classmate. They were great friends and both their families too were in good relationship. They together studied till graduation at Mar Ivanios College. Later he completed post-graduation in sociology from Karyavattom campus. After studies, Vallathol went to South Africa where he worked as a school teacher. But he had to return back after the implementation of military rule.
Thus once again he became active in theatre. During mid-1980’s he entered Doordarshan as a newsreader and also produced 200 documentary films. He acted as a tailor in a telefilm for Doordarshan – Vaitharani marking his acting career in small screen. He has also acted in about 75 movies. He is married to Geetha Lekshmy and the couple has no children. So, in 1988 they started an organisation for mentally challenged people named "Thanal". His noted film roles include Godfather, Saadaram and Oru pennum randaanum.
