Ribhu Dasgupta Biography

Ribhu Dasgupta is a successful Bollywood director of new generation. He started his film journey with 2011 psychological thriller, Michael starring Naseeruddin Shah. The movie is a mystery thriller drama, a remake of the 2016 American film of the same name, which stars Parineeti Chopra in the lead role.

Ribhu Dasgupta hails from West Bengal, and was born into a filmy family. He is the son of Raja Dasgupta, a filmmaker. His mother is television presenter and actress Chaitali Dasgupta. His grandfather Harisadhan Dasgupta was a pioneer of Bengali documentary cinema. His elder brother Birsa Dasgupta is a filmmaker, and his sister-in-law Bidipta Chakraborty is a Bengali actress. His grandmother was screenwriter Sonali Dasgupta, who later married Italian film director, Roberto Rossellini. So most of his family members are associated with film making, and Ribhu too joined the same field.

In 2004 he moved to Mumbai, and stayed with his elder brother Birsa Dasgupta. While at Mumbai he has worked as an assistant to filmmaker Anurag Kashyap. Amrit Sagar’s 1971 was his first film as an assistant director. Michael starring Naseeruddin Shah is his first film as a full-fledged director, and there is no turning back after that. He is fascinated towards thrillers, and most of his films and TV series belong to this genre. Most of his works have been appreciated as well.
