Rohit Shetty Biography

Rohit Shetty a film director, cinematographer and occasional actor. He is the son of the late actor and fight master M. B. Shetty most popularly known as Fighter Shetty. He is most famous for Golmaal series of Bollywood at present. He is one among the most successful Bollywood directors at present and most famous for making movies with Ajay Devgan. Rohit Shetty played a significant role in the career of Ajay Devgan and their magical combination has given some huge hits to Bollywood.

Association of Rohit Shetty began with Ajay Devgan from his debutant movie, Phool aur kaante (1991) itself.  He has worked as an assistant director of Ajay Devgan movies like Phool aur Kaante, Suhaag, Raju Chacha, Pyar to hona hi tha, Hindusthan ki kasam and Haqueeqat. When Rohit Shetty debuted as director, he casted Ajay devgan as hero in Zameer. Bipasha Basu and Abhishek bachchan also worked in this movie and Zameer was moderate success at box office too.

But it was Golmaal series that made Rohit Shetty a popular director of Bollywood. All the three movies belong to comedy genre and casted Ajay Devgan in the leading role. Though Ajay devgan is most known for serious roles and action thrillers, these three movies proved that he can handle comic roles as well. Arshad Warsi, Sharman Joshi and Thushar Kapoor were casted in all the sequels. Thushar kapoor’s role as dumb was appreciated most in all the three movies. In 2014, Golmaal 4 is to release. Rimi sen was the heroine of Golmaal: Fun unlimited (2006). In the next two ventures – Golmaal returns and Golmaal 3, Kareena kapoor was the leading heroine and she was casted opposite Ajay devgan in both these movies. Golmaal 3 also featured veteran actors Mithun Chakraborthy and Ratna Pathak Shah handling the comic roles. All the three series have been huge successes at box office, declaring as blockbusters.

Other movies of Rohit Shetty – Ajay devgan combination include Singham, Bol bachchan, Sunday and All the best. Singham 2 is to release soon. Chennai Express starring Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone is the only exception of Rohit Shetty movies where Ajay devgan has not been given a role.
