S. S. Kumaran Biography
S. S. Kumaran is a Tamil music director and film director. He entered film industry as a music director in the year 2008 with ‘Poo’ and in 2011, began his new innings as a film director. He has directed two Tamil movies till now -Theneer Viduthi (2011) and Kerala Nattilam Pengaludane (2014). As a music director, his works include – Poo, Virundhali Kalavani, Nellu and Kadhal Paadhai, apart from his directorial ventures.
He belongs to Valliyoor in Tirunelveli district and he is addicted to radio and music since younger days. Gradually he started observing the structure of music and desired to become a music director. His father was a school headmaster and he didn’t agree to Kumaran’s desire to join music industry. Later he convinced his dad and joined the Film institute to study music. He also gained experience in photography and worked as a cameraman for various advertisements, corporate and documentary films. But his real desire was music and once he gave a demonstration of his tunes with his own lyrics to director Sasi. Sasi was impressed by Kumaran’s tunes and gave him break in the form of Poo in 2008. His work was well appreciated and thus he continued in the industry. "Choo Choo Maari" was a popular track of the movie.
Though he received many film offers later to compose music, he waited for the right script. He rejected nearly a dozen films, before he signed on the dotted line for Kalavani, and Virundhali, Nellu, and Kalingathubarani. In 2011, he made his directorial debut with Theneer Viduthi. His experience behind camera and ad films helped him to make his maiden project. Most recently in 2014, his second movie was released titled - Kerala Nattilam Pengaludane.
