Sai Chand Biography
Sai Chand is a film actor and documentary film maker, associated with Tollywood. As an actor, he got noticed for numerous character roles on screen, and his work as Sai pallavi’s father in Fida got appreciated in the recent times. His debut lead role in Maa Bhoomi (1980) also earned him recognition. Sai Chand is the son of Tripuraneni Gopichand, a radical humanist, Telugu writer and film director, and the grandson of Tripuraneni Ramaswamy, a playwright and social reformer. He is also related to Pitcheswara Rao Atluri, a prominent writer in the Telugu language, who married his great-aunt Chouda Rani.
Sai Chand was born on 12 March 1956 in Kurnool, Andhra Pradesh in a family with rich tradition related to arts and literature. Many of his family members and close relatives are prominent figures in Telugu literature. Born as the son of Tripuraneni Gopichand and grandson of Tripuraneni Ramaswamy, he inherited a rich tradition from his forefathers. Yet Sai chose the field of acting, rather than writing. He lost his father at the age of 6. He marked his acting debut as a child actor in the film, Sati Arundhati.
In 1980 he marked his debut as an adult actor through the film, Maa Bhoomi, based on a play by Krishan Chander on the Telangana Rebellion in Hyderabad State. The film is listed among CNN-IBN's list of hundred greatest Indian films of all time. Sai Chand played protagonist Ramaiah in this movie. The film run for more than 365 days in theatre, and was shown in many film festivals. Later he worked in many offbeat movies, and appeared in over 35 Telugu films. Currently he plays character roles, and makes documentary films on filmmakers and actors of Tollywood.
