Sapan Saran Biography

Sapan Saran is a noted actress who predominantly works in theatre. She is also known as a model, poet and writer and one of the founding members of the theatre company, 'Tamaasha'. She has appeared in a few south Indian movies and Bollywood, and her recent release is Bollywood film – Bewakoofiyaan in 2014. She made her film debut with ‘SRK’ – a remake of Malayalam classic – Chinthaavishtayaya Shyamala in 2009, which is not released yet. Kanden Kadhalai (Remake of Jab we met), Vanthaan Vendraan and Thuppakki are her Tamil releases while Ye Maaya Chesave is her single Telugu film. The actress is known for doing supporting roles.  

Sapan Saran is from Mumbai. After a short stint in cinema and modelling, she got associated with theater. She has been associated with dancer Astad Deboo for many plays, mostly as a writer. She wrote plays, Club Desire and Classics Redux directed by ace director, Sunil Shanbag. She has also co-directed one play with him, titled - Marriage-ology. She directed Churchgate Couple, a short 10-minute piece from the play which earned her appreciation.  Club Desire happened to be her first play which was selected for NSD’s International Theatre Festival, Bharat Rang Mahotsav 2015. Now she is concentrating on her writing career and is to publish her first book. Already she has published many of her poems in magazines. She is also a stage actress. She is a co-founder of the theatre company, 'Tamaasha' which aims to explore new theatre ideas in alternative spaces.

She belongs to Jodhpur, Rajasthan. Then the family moved to Delhi where her father worked as a professor at JNU. She started off her career in 2008 appearing in a few ads - Kitkat, Scooty Pep, Unibic Cookies etc and bagged her first film offer – SRK. She played the second lead Sandhya, for this satire movie starring Vinay Pathak, which went unreleased. Later she moved to south Indian movies.
