Seema Deo Biography

Seema Deo is an actress of Bollywood and Marathi films known for supporting roles. Her husband Ramesh Deo is also a popular actor of yesterdays and together they have appeared in more than 75 films of which noted one is Anand (1970) where both played the roles of spouses in supporting roles. Most recently they celebrated their 50^th wedding anniversary in a unique way by conducting the marriage rituals once again. Seema was formerly known as Nalini Saraf. She changed her name to Seema hearing an astrologer’s words that her name starting with letter ‘S’ will bring her success. Her sons are also upcoming talents of Bollywood. Abhinay Deo is a noted Bollywood director who came to limelight with 2011 movie – Delhi belly. He has also directed the movie, Game though it was a failure. Ajinkya Deo is a noted actor of Marathi films.

Seema is originally from Karnataka. She debut silver screen with the movie, Ayodhapathi playing Lakshman’s (Jagdeep’s) wife when she was only 14. Though she didn’t deliver any dialogues, she got 500 rupees for the movie. After that she acted over 150 Hindi films and over 75 Marathi films. Anand, Majboor, Mard, Dream Girl, Koshish, Sarawatichandra, Jamai and Raja Roop Ki Raja Choron Ki Rani are the most memorable roles of this veteran actress of 70 years old. She ended her career abruptly in early 1990s after doing Roop ki rani chorom ka raja and returned back to screen with Jetaa (2010), directed by her actor son Ajinkya. She did so only because many of her scenes were chopped off to add dance numbers of Sri Devi.

Seema started her Hindi film journey with the movie, Prem Patra of Bimal Roy. Earlier she has done a few roles in movies like Jagachya Pathivar directed by Raja Paranjpe, where she played a blind girl of 17. The movie starred Shashi Kapoor and Sadhana in lead roles. This movie became her biggest break to Hindi movies. Ramesh Deo and Seema worked in more than 75 movies together. Gradually it developed as their love for each other resulting in their marriage in 1963. In the movie Aliya Bhogasi, Ramesh Deo played her brother’s role.
