Sudhir Dalvi Biography

Sudhir Dalvi is a popular television actor known for portraying character roles. Known for portraying elderly roles, he shot to fame playing the pivot role of Govardhan 'Virani (husband of Baa) in the most popular and longest running television series of Indian television - Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi. Though he is an atheist, he gained immense popularity by playing several mythological and religious figures on mini screen. He played the protagonist, Sai Baba in the popular series of Ramanand Sagar with the same name. He had earlier played the same role on screen. He gained attention on mini screen for the first time through the show, Ramayan, directed by Ramanand Sagar in the 1980s, where he was seen in the role of Guru Vashishta.

 

He was born on 20 March 1939. He has been a part of numerous Hindi and other regional language films, doing supporting roles. He also did a small part in Richard Attenborough's historic film - Gandhi. He got associated with television in the 1980s. He first came to prominence playing the role of Guru Vashishta in Ramanand Sagar’s Ramayan, and was seen in the role of Shah Jahan in ‘Bharat Ek Khoj.’ With the series, Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi and Sai Baba, he became a household name of television viewers. Also called Baapuji in the series, Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi was a landmark role in his acting career.   

 

As a film actor, Shirdi Ke Sai Baba released in 1977 was the milestone movie of his acting career. In the film starring Manoj Kumar, he played the male protagonist Sai Baba, which earned him huge recognition. Karmayogi, Gehrayee, Aap Ke Deewane, Lootmaar, Saboot (1980) and Ladke Baap Se Badke are other noted Bollywood appearances. He also played a cameo role in 1977 film – Apnapan.
