Suparna Anand Biography

Suparna Anand is one among the promising and top heroines of Malayalam during late 80’s. She is most known for her critically well acclaimed roles of the movies – Vaisali and Jnan Gandharavan that have won many state and national awards. She has also worked as Anil Kapoor’s younger sister in the blockbuster hit – Tezaab in the year 1988. She is married to Sanjay Mitra, her co-actor of the movie Vaisali.

Though born in Mumbai in the year 1969, she had a successful career in Malayalam. She has done only countable movies till now and known for her beautiful looks during late 80’s. But she gave acting a break before her marriage with Sanjay Mitra, another resident of Mumbai who debut with Bharathan’s Vaisali in the year 1988. Only memorable performances of this actress are Vaisali and Jann gandarvan, both belonging to the great directors of Malayalam, Bharathan and Padmarajan respectively. Both these directors have given a promising start to Suparna, but both are not alive now. Padmarajan died soon after the release of Jnan Gandharvan, where Suparna starred as a college girl and Nitesh Bhartwaj of serial Mahabharata fame acted as Gandharva. Like the mysterious end of the movie,  when its director also went so unexpectedly, Suparna also left the industry though the movie gave her a promising track to follow on.

In the movie Vaisali which is always regarded as the best work of Bharathan and often called a cult classic in Malayalam cinema world, she played the role of the daughter of a courtesan who goes to forest to bring Rishyashrungan to perform a mahayagam at Angarajyam as the country was feared of drought and only rain can bring everything back. This movie is an episode taken from the Great Mahabharata. Both these movies proved the talent of Suparna to express well in historic and classic movies, a little linked to mythology and Hindu beliefs. Both these movies are always remembered for its bold moments as well.

Her other Malayalam movies include – Witness, Nagarangalil chennu raapparkkam and Utharan. She has acted in only 5 Malayalam movies of which 3 were super hits and the rest two, average movies, proving herself to be a promising actress. She has acted in a Tamil movie Dravidan and her Bollywood movies include – Tehzaab, Zulm Ko Jala Doonga, Aastha: In the Prison of Spring, Aakarshan and Muqaddar Ka Badshaah.
