Tanuja Mukherjee Biography
Tanuja Mukherjee is an Indian film actress who was very popular in 1960s and 1970s. She is the mother of the actresses Kajol and Tanisha. She entered film industry as a child artist and later performed lead roles in many Hindi films.
She was born on 23rd September 1943 in Chembur in Mumbai in Maharashtra in a Marathi family. Her father’s name is Kumarsen Samarth and her mother’s name is Shobhna Samarth. Her mother was also an actress in thirties and forties and her father was a poet and a film director. She has two sisters Nutan and Chatura among which Nutan was an actress. She married Shomu Mukherjee in 1943 and they were separated later on but did not divorce. He died of heart attack on 10th April 2008. She has two daughters Kajol and Tanisha who are also actresses in Bollywood.
With the support of her elder sister Nutan, she entered the film industry as a child artist in the name of Baby Tanuja in 1950. Her first film in the adult role was Chhabili in 1960. Her sister Nutan acted in the lead role in this film and this was directed by her mother. Very soon she started acting in lead roles in the films and her film Jeene Ki Raah and Haathi Mere Saathi were mega hits.
She acted in many films including Ghar Dwaar, Anokha Rishta, Adhikar, Suhaagan, Nasihat, Anubhav, Bachpan, Ek Thi Reeta, Purani Pehchan, Imtihan, Do Chor, Amber, Hamari Beti, Maa Beti, Mera Suhag, Agnee, Priya, Ek Masson, Preet Ki Dori, Mohabbat Ki Kasam, Door Ka Rahi, etc.
After her marriage she stayed away from film industry for a while and after they were separated, she started to act again. In the dance series Rock and Roll Family she worked as judge with Kajol and Ajay Devgan in 2008 which was aired on Zee TV.
