Tarachand Barjatya was a film producer of Bollywood better known as the founder of Rajshri Productions, one of the leading production houses, known for making multi-star cast family dramas. He established Rajshri Pictures (P) Ltd. in 1947, the latest release under this company is Prem Ratan Dhan Payo, which is running in full-packed houses right now, creating new box office records. Rajshri Productions - is known for establishing Salman Khan as a lead actor of Bollywood, since his launch through Maine Pyar Kiya in 1989, followed by Hum Aapke Hain Kaun, Hum Saath Saath Hain and the most recent - Prem Ratan Dhan Payo and quite interesting fact is that Salman used the screen name ‘Prem’ for all these movies which proved lucky to this star. Rajshri Productions is one of the long-standing production houses of India.

He was born on 10th May 1914 in Kuchaman City, Rajasthan. He studied at Vidyasagar College, Kolkata. In 1933, he joined Moti Mahal Theaters Private at the age of 19 and in 1939, he moved to south India. He worked with many south Indian directors and started his distribution company in 1947. He has been instrumental in bringing several south Indian directors to Bollywood through his production house.

He has three children - Ajit Kumar Barjatya, Kamal Kumar Barjatya, Rajkumar Barjatya who later entered to film production. He established Rajshri Pictures (P) Ltd. on August 15, 1947. Since then, he and his descendants have entertained families with clean family dramas with melodious songs and colourful dance sequences. His sons have actively involved in the field in bringing the Rajshri Pictures to great heights. T Over the years, the tradition to make movies this way has not changed and Rajshri productions have earned fame for their super picturisation of marriage ceremonies and associated fun, the best instance being Hum Apke Hain kaun, which created new box office records.

Raj Kumar Barjatya was one among those who witnessed both the heights and falls of the production. Sooraj Barjatya is his son. Sooraj Barjatya, the latest descendant of Tarachand Barjatya has delivered big hits with Salman Khan. Apart from his debut - Maine Pyar Kiya in 1989, followed by Hum Aapke Hain Kaun, Hum Saath Saath Hain and the most recent - Prem Ratan Dhan Payo, he also delivered a major hit – Vivaah in 2006 starring Shahid Kapoor and Amrita Rao.

As a film producer, Tarachand Barjatya’s most successful films are - Dosti, Jeevan Mrityu, Uphaar, Piya Ka Ghar, Saudagar, Geet Gaata Chal, Tapasya, Chitchor, Dulhan Wahi Jo Piya Man Bhaye, Ankhiyon Ke Jharokhon Se, Sawan Ko Aane Do, Taraana, Nadiya Ke Paar, and Saaransh. He received Filmfare award for best movie twice – Dosti and Maine Pyar Kiya. He passed away in 1992.
