Vicky Kaushal Biography
Vicky Kaushal is a budding actor of Bollywood, best known for playing male protagonist in 2015 award winning movie – Masaan. The movie was screened at 2015 Cannes Film Festival winning two awards. He played the role of a lower caste boy who falls in love with an upper caste girl, the character portrayed by Shweta Tripathi. The movie was the directorial debut of Neeraj Ghaywan. Vicky is the son of stunt master and action coordinator of Bollywood films -Shyam Kaushal. Prior to acting in movies, he had a short stint in theater and has also worked as an assistant director in Bollywood.
Vicky Kaushal was born on 16 May 1988 to a Punjabi family in Mumbai. His father Shyam Kaushal is an action director of Bollywood films like Kill Dill, Bajrangi Bhaijaan, Daawat-e-Ishq, PK, 3 Idiots and Hollywood project – Slumdog Millionaire etc. His brother Sunny Kaushal works as assistant director in Bollywood. Vicky completed Engineering in Electronics and Telecommunication in 2009. Yet his passion to acting brought him close to theatre, instead of a professional career as an engineer. He also attended an acting workshop under Kishore Namit Kapoor.
He played small roles in Bollywood films like Luv Shuv Tey Chicken Khurana and Bombay Velvet. But he kept himself busy with theater works. In 2010, he joined Anurag Kashyap’s team as an assistant director and has worked for the movies - Gangs of Wasseypur 1 and 2. He acquainted Neeraj Ghaywan in those days when he was also working under Kashyap as an assistant director. Later when Neeraj made his first full-fledged film, he offered Vicky the title role of Masaan. Zubaan directed by Mozez Singh is his upcoming flick.
