Vijaya Lalitha Biography
Vijaya Lalitha was a noted south Indian actress in the 1960s who has appeared in a few Hindi films too. She was known as the ‘Female James Bond’ of Telugu film industry. She is also a female director of the industry who directed 47 movies, making her name to enter the Guinness book of world records in 2002 as ‘Female director with highest number of films’. She is the aunt of actress cum politician – Vijayashanti. Rani Mera Naam (1972), Baazigar (1972), Maut ka badla Maut (1985) and Saakshi (1967) are her noted roles as an actress. Rowdy Rani, Revolver Rani, Chalaki Rani Kiladi Raja, Bhale Rangadu, Manushullo Devudu and Kadaladu Vadaladu also need special mention. Sadhu Aur Shaitan, Rani Mera Naam and Hathkadi are her Bollywood films.
She has appeared in several female-oriented movies and is known for her punctuality in film sets. She was popular for her "female James Bond" roles and has appeared in many B-Grade movies too. She regularly appeared with actors like N. T. Rama Rao, Akkineni Nageswara Rao and many others. This actress was in her career peak during the period 1977-1981, a short period during which she created sensation as an action heroine. Vijaya Lalitha is a relative to Vijaya Nirmala and Vijaya Shanthi. Vijaya Nirmala's first husband is brother of Vijaya Lalitha and actress Vijaya Shanthi is daughter of Vijaya Lalitha's elder sister.
Vijaya Laitha's Oka Naari vanda Tupaakulu is the first Telugu film in which cinema scope technique was used and it was exhibited in selected theaters only. Though it created great waves during the initial 4-5 years, later this technique faded away. Known for portraying fearless and bold characters, she is one among Telugu heroines, who changed the face of Telugu cinema. Panduranga Mahathyam was her debut movie as a child artist, where she played a child artist’s role. Since then she has acted in more than 200 films and directed 47 films.
