Vikram Biography 
Vikram is an Indian film actor who concentrates in Tamil film industry. He has won many Filmfare awards and state awards in his acting career. He is considered to be one of the excellent and talented actors of Tamil film industry.
He was born on 17th April 1966 in Paramakudi in Tamil Nadu. His father’s name is Vinod Raj and his mother’s name is Rajeshwari. His father is a Christian and his mother is a Hindu. His original name was Vikram Kennedy. His father had great desire to become an actor but could not be successful and could get only minor roles. He was a great inspiration for his son.
Vikram completed his schooling at Montfort School in Yercaud and got his graduation in English from Loyola College at Chennai and then pursued his MBA degree. During his school days, he excelled in Karate, dance and swimming. It was at that time that he met with a major accident and broke his leg and was bed ridded for three years and had to undergo twenty three surgeries to get back his leg in working condition. It was at that time that he met Shailaja Balakrishnan, a Malayalee from Thalassery in Kerala and they fell in love with each other and got married. The couple has one son Dhruv and one daughter Akshita.
He started showing his face in the screen as a model when he did modeling for popular brands like Chola Tea, TVS Excel and Alwyn watches. He entered film industry in 1990 through the film En Kaadhal Kanmani. Later he acted in many low budget films but could not be very successful. In 1999, the tragedy film Sethu gave him a big break and this was his first successful venture. This was followed by many commercial successes.
He acted in the role of the blind man in the film Kaasi in 2001 and won him many awards. His performance as an autism affected gravedigger in the film Pithamagan by Bala was critically acclaimed and earned him many awards. His film in 2010 Raavan was screened at Cannes Film Festival and then at Venice Film Festival and at Busan International Film Festival.
He received Kalaimamani Award from the Government of Tamil Nadu in 2003 and honorary doctorate degree from the People’s University of Milan in the field of Fine Arts on 29th May 2011. He is affectionately called Chiyaan and Kenny.
He promotes various social causes and appeared as the Youth Envoy for the United Nations Human Settlements Programme in 2011. He runs his own welfare association Vikram Foundation and has associations with Kasi Eye Care. He also serves as the brand ambassador of the Sanjeevani Trust and Vidya Sudha, the school for special children.
