Vivek (actor) Biography
Vivek is an Indian film actor and comedian who has won Filmfare Best Comedian Awards four times for his films, Run, Saamy, Perazhaga, Minnale and Sivaji. He holds Guinness World Records for the fastest performance for the fastest movie production for the movie Sivappu Mazhai. He received Padma Shri Award for his contribution from Government of India.
Vivek was born on 19th November 1961 and his full name is Vivekananthan. He was working as a telephone operator in Madurai after finishing his M. Com. Then he was transferred to Chennai and appeared for TNPSC examination. He got selected in the Group IV category and joined as a Junior Assistant in Madras Secretariat. During that time, he was the main entertainer in the Madras Humor Club International where people come and share their jokes. This got him Best Entertainer Award many times.
P. R. Govindarajan was one of the members of the club and he introduced Vivek to his friend and film director K. Balachander. He started writing scripts for Balachander for four years. He always wanted to be a writer and an assistant director, but he was given a chance to act in the film. His debut movie was Manathil Uruthi Vendum in the year 1987. He played important roles in films, Kushi, Minnale, Saamy and Run. He is a talented person and known for his ever-young looking personality. He has good talent in mimicry and speaks exactly like actors, MGR, Sivaji, Kamal, Rajini, Vijay, Vijaykant and many others.
His laughing, his power of thinking and acting are the secrets of his success. He was inspired by NSK and M. R. Radha and considered to be the cinematic heir of Nagesh, the great Tamil Comedian of 60s and 70s. Some of the awards he had received are All Time Favorite Comedian Award, Vijay Award, Special Comedian Award, Kodaikanal FM Award, Best Comedian Award, etc. In 2009 he received Asianet Film Award for Special Honor Jury Award. He has fulfilled 25 years of his acting in Tamil cinema industry.
On 16 April 2021, he suffered a severe heart attack and was taken to SIMS Hospital in Chennai. He died on 17 April 2021 at the same hospital.
