Yogesh Biography
Yogesh is a popular Indian writer known as a lyricist of Bollywood. Yogesh was born in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh and as a lyricist his first work was ‘Kahi door jab din dal jaaye’ – an evergreen song of Rajesh Khanna movie Anand, sung by Mukesh. Zindagi Kaisi Hai Paheli of Anand, Rimjhim gire Saawan of Manzil, Kai baar yunhi dekha hai from Rajnigandha and Na bole tum na maine kuch kaha from Baaton Baaton Mein are a few more memorable and ever green songs of 1970’s penned by Yogesh. He has also written a few television serials.
His full name is Yogesh Gaur. Yet he is fondly called Yogesh. He was born in 1943 in Lucknow, UP. He moved to Mumbai in search of work in films. He wrote songs for C-grade potboilers like Flying Circus, Marvel Men, Rustom Kaun and Husn Ka Ghulam. His first major break was to write lyrics for the movie, Anand directed by Hrishikesh Mukherjee. The song, ‘kahi door jab’ became a huge hit for its music as well as its beautiful words. He wrote only one song for the movie. He got it from recommendations from Rajesh Khanna, Amitabh Bachchan and Mukherjee. The songs kahi door and Zindagi – both philosophical, became huge hits and Yogesh became a star overnight. People used to send him flowers thinking that the song, ‘Meine tere liye’ was also written by him.
He was popularly known as ‘shaayar’ by actresses of that time because he used to praise beauty of actresses through his poetry. He is widely known as a ‘sensible film lyricist’. His best songs are for film makers - Basu Chatterjee and Hrishikesh Mukherjee. He has also penned lyrics for noted Hindi movies like Mili and Ek raat.
