Anand Mahindra Biography
Anand Mahindra is the Chairman and Managing Director of Mahindra & Mahindra. He is the grandson of K. C. Mahindra co-founder of the company. Keshub Mahindra is uncle of Anand Mahindra, from whom he received the charge of Mahindra Group. As per 2011 rankings of Forbes, his net worth is US $825 million and is ranked #68 in India's richest men list. He took over the charge of Managing director in 1997 and since then, played a significant part in the growth of the organization. Through acquisitions and Greenfield business development, he has spread Mahindra Empire and its services across the globe. Mahinra group acquired Satyam Computer Services in 2009, following the allegations and fall of share price of the IT organization.
Anand was born in Mumbai, Maharashtra on 1 May 1955. He schooled at The Lawrence School Lovedale, Ooty. He graduated magna cum laude from Harvard College, Cambridge in 1977. He did MBA from Harvard Business School, Boston, Massachusetts in 1981. He has also studied filmmaking from Harvard and has good interest in movies and photography. In 1991, he was appointed Deputy Managing Director of Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. He took over the charge of Managing director from Keshub Mahindra in 1997 and has now completed 14 years. Kotak Mahindra Finance Limited was converted into a bank in 2003.
He has witnessed and has been instrumental in the acquisition of many organizations by Mahindra. It includes several high-profile mergers in the past few years. Satyam Computer Services in 2009, Ssangyong Motor Company in 2010 and Reva Electric Vehicles in 2010 need special mention. In 2002, the company launched Scorpio which is accepted around the globe.
