Desh Bandhu Gupta Biography
Desh Bandhu Gupta born in 1938 in Mumbai city is the founder and chairman of Lupin Limited, a multinational pharmaceutical company. Gupta is founder of Lupin with a start-up capital of just Rs.5000 in the 1968, which he has borrowed from his wife, Manju. Today his company, Lupin has become one of the major pharmatucial companies in the world manufacturing generic drugs worth $ 1.83 billion.
Desh Bandhu Gupta is married and has five children lives in Mumbai. Desh Bandhu Gupta started his career as a chemistry professor at the Birla Institute of Science and Technology, Pilani, Rajasthan. He was the eldest among five siblings, DBG as he is popularly known but he was never satisfied with his job because he always wanted to do something unique for the society especially in the field of human life. Two of his five children Daughter Vinita Gupta and son Nilesh Gupta are actively working for Lupin. His daughter Vinita is married and lives in America, she is currently Group President and CEO of Lupin Pharmaceuticals company.
Lupin Human Welfare & Research Foundation was started with the same purpose by Desh Bandhu Gupta in 1988. The sole purpose of this set up the development of uplifting rural families living below the poverty line in India. Lupin Human Welfare & Research Foundation is one of the largest NGO which is involved for the purpose in Southeast Asia.
DB Gupta practices Vipassana meditation and he is a trustee of the Global Vipassana Foundation and chairman of ISKCON Temple. Gupta received the Ernst and Young Entrepreneur of the Year 2011, the Visionary Leader award. According to Forbes Gupta' worth is estimated at $7.2 billion, which makes him the 254th richest person in the world in 2015. D.B. Gupta has done lot of work for public welfare and education.
