Dharmavarapu Subramanyam Biography
Dharmavarapu Subramanyam was a famous comedian of Telugu film industry. He was a popular television actor too. His debut movie was ‘Jayammu Nischayammura’ and his last released movie was Shadow. He died on 7 December 2013 aged 59 at Hyderabad and a couple of his movies, Rudrama Devi and Hum tum are yet to release. He was fighting with cancer since a long time. He has also directed one movie, Thokaleni Pitta. As a comedian, he has done more than 100 memorable movies with noted performances include - Chirutha, Businessman, Khaleja, Shadow, Darling, King, Nuvvostanante Nenoddantana, Bodyguard, Athadu and Okkadu. Doordarshan’s ‘Anando Brahma’ programme made him a popular celebrity.
Subramanyam had an illustrious career in T-Town. A popular name in Telugu films, Dharmavarapu was known for his perfect timing and he carved a niche for himself through the memorable roles he played. He was equally popular on the small screen. Apart from Adando Brahma, "Jayammu Nischayammura”, 'Ding Dong' and satire political show are other noted television shows. His career spanned to 23 years.
Born in a small town of Andhra Pradesh, Komminenivari Palem, he started his acting career through theatre. He was closely associated with the Andhra Pradesh wing of the Praja Natya Mandali. Later he served as the Chairman of the Andhra Pradesh State Cultural Council, and played a significant role in promoting theatre and betterment of theatre artists. He was a writer, stand-up comedian, political satirist and director. Dharmavarapu's debut film Jayambu Nischayammu Ra was directed by Jandhyala and the lead role was played by Rajendra Prasad. Dharmavarapu played Rajendra Prasad’s father’s role in this movie.
