Gauri Karnik Biography

Gauri Karnik is a less known actress of Bollywood most popularly known for her debut movie – Sur: The melody of love where she acted opposite great singer Lucky Ali, who also debut with this movie in the year 2002. Though she came to limelight with the movie Sur, film lovers haven’t noticed her so far in any successful Bollywood movie. Sur: The melody of love was loosely based on 1992 Telugu Musical hit film Swati Kiranam. She has been nominated in Star Screen Award Most Promising Newcomer - Female for her performance in Sur in the year 2003 Award functions. She has also worked in successful Kannada movie Karanji in the year 2009. Now she is married to Bollywood script writer, Sarim Momin who is one year younger than her. Sarim Momin is known for the scripts of Ram Gopal Varma’s movies like - D, Sarkar, Darling and Go. They got married in the year 2010. Apart from Hindi and Kannada movies, she has also acted for a few Bengali movies. She is a successful television actress as well.

Gauri Karnik was born 20 December 1977 in Maharashtra. She started her acting career through episodes of television serials during early 2000’s.  First one of this kind was ‘Khel khel mein’ episode of Rishtey, TV series aired on Zee TV during 1999-2001. She gave more importance to television serials than movies. Her other television serials include – Sukanya, Hei ma lai ah sing ka, Himalaya Singh and Hum Jo Keh Na Paaye. Her Bollywood movies include – Stop! (2004), One Fine Monday (2009), Prarambh (2004) and Sur (2002). She has also worked for a couple of Bengali movies - Pa Ma Ga Re Sa and Grohon: The Eclipse (2009). She has also worked in 2009 Kannada language film, Karanji.  She was paired opposite Vijaya Raghavendra in the movie.  The movie was popular as it had 14 tracks based on works of popular writers of Kannada.

The movie Sur is about the life of a singer who dreams big and gets the achievement at last. Lucky Ali is in search of a special voice to sing his compositions and he finds her at a church. But seeing her real talent of singing and composition, he feels jealous of her. The movie lovely depicts the love story between a teacher and his student.
