Robert Vadra Biography
Robert Vadra is an Indian businessman, better known as the husband of Priyanka Gandhi, a member of the famous Nehru family. He is the son-in-law of former prime minister of India, Rajiv Gandhi and his wife Sonia Gandhi. Land dealings with DLF group in 2012 brought him to limelight in the recent times. Charges of corruption were leveled against by him by Arvind Kejriwal and Prashant Bhushan, for his land dealings with DLF and for taking an interest free loan of 65 crores. His Facebook comment “Mango people in a banana republic" went viral and initiated many hot debates and discussions. A man of controversies Robert Vadra is involved in multi-crore corrupt land deals. The entire Congress came out to defend Vadra, and the Centre power was in Congress’ hands then.
He was born on 18 April 1969 in Moradabad, Uttar Pradesh. His father Rajendra Vadra ran a brass and wood handicrafts business in Moradabad. His mother Maureen Vadra is of Scottish origin. The family is of Punjabi origin. Robert had two siblings, an elder brother Richard and one sister - Michelle. A series of unlucky events struck his family since 2001. Michelle died in a car accident in 2001. Richard committed suicide in 2003, and his father was found dead at a guest house in New Delhi in 2009.
Priyanka first came in contact with Robert Vadra in 1986, when she was fifteen. They were good friends and dogs, music, fashion and dancing were the common things between them. Slowly love blossomed between the two and they got married in 1997. They were publically spotted together for the first time in 1993 at fashion designer Ashish Soni's show in New Delhi. As a businessman, he is associated with many real estate projects including DLF, Sky Light, Real Earth etc.
