T. Subbarami Reddy Biography
T. Subbarami Reddy is a well-known industrialist, politician and film producer from Nellore, Andhra Pradesh. He is also known for his philanthropic activities. Associated with cinema in the 1980s and 1990s, he later joined social work in politics. He is a recipient of honorary doctorate by Mangalore University in recognition of social work. In 1993 he received National Film Award for Best Feature Film as a producer for the Sanskrit film - Bhagavad Gita. A member of Indian National Congress, he has served as a Parliamentarian twice. He founded the Gayatri holdings and has been in the field of construction business for 35 years. He is the founder of Gayatri Projects India Pvt. Ltd and his wife T. Indira Subbarami Reddy currently serves as the chairman.
He was born on 17 September 1943 in Nellore, Andhra Pradesh. He is the nephew of the legendary comedian of Telugu cinema - T. Ramana Reddy. National award winning filmmaker Pattabhirama Reddy was also his close relative. He completed graduation in commerce from Nizam College, Hyderabad. Later he ventured into construction business and has been associated with it for long 35 years. Later he diversified to sugar, chemicals and now thermal power projects as well. He was the mud supplier for Nagarjuna Sagar Project in Andhra Pradesh, which earned him a gold medal from then Prime Minister of India, Indira Gandhi.
He built Maheswari and Parameswari – two famous theaters of Hyderabad. He ventured into film production in the late 1980s. Known for many Telugu and Hindi productions, he is best known as the film co-producer of Sri Devi starrer Bollywood films – Chandini and Lamhe. He associated with great filmmaker Yash Chopra for both these movies. Both these movies were highly praised by critics and regarded among the best movies of both Yash Chopra and Sridevi. He became the Chairman of Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam Board (T.T.D.) in 2004. He has also served as a member of National Film Award Jury in 1994 and 1997.
